This two-day course is aimed at first line managers, foreman, gangers, team leaders, supervisors and those who have, or are about to acquiresupervisory responsibilities.
It provides an introduction to health and safety, welfare and environmental issues, and legal responsibilities relevant to their work. The course gives attendees valuable assistance in safely managing a construction site.
This course prepares individuals for the SMSTS and/or the Supervisor Specialist Skills course.

The Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) is a high quality Construction Skills training course for the construction industry.
The SMSTS is one of the most widely recognised certified courses for Site Managers, Agents and Supervisors. SMSTS certificate holders find it easier to prove their skills to contractors and clients; in fact many employers insist that all their Site Managers hold the certificate.
Aimed at site managers, agents and supervisors, the scheme gives a thorough understanding of the key health and safety issues on site. It will help them to develop a better understanding of their moral and social responsibilities, as well as giving the skills and knowledge needed to manage health and safety on site, in compliance with legislation.

The courses will be run on a Friday over 5 consecutive weeks.
Cost of the course is £565 including books (GE700) and registration fees. Members of Construction Skills will receive a daily course attendance grant of £35 per day's training and an achievement grant of £90 for passing the five day course (saving £265).

SMSTS certificate holders will need to renew their certificate and the refresher course aims to bring individuals' health and safety knowledge up to date, as well as giving a thorough overview of legislation changes and their impact in the workplace.
The course includes a wide range of topics many building on the previous five-day course programme as well as introducing new subjects.
Who Should Attend?
Those who currently hold a Site Management Safety Training Scheme certificate which is nearing the five year period, (evidence of this is required prior to course attendance).

The course provides a practical summary of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, helping the individual to understand potential hazards they may face on site, and identifying the individual’s responsibility for looking after themselves and others.
This course is an essential foundation for those wishing to obtain an industry accreditation card and a natural progression from this course would be to attend the Site Supervisor’s Safety Training Scheme or a Supervisor Specialist Skills course.
